Bare Area Of The Liver
The bare area of the liver (nonperitoneal area) is a large triangular area on thediaphragmatic surface of the liver, devoid ofperitoneal covering. It is attached directly to the diaphragm.
Location
It can be found on the posterior surface of the liver, between the two layers of the coronary ligament, and is fused to the diaphragm by areolar tissue.
Function
The structure is clinically important as it designates the spot in the body where infection can spread to the thoracic cavity from the abdominal cavity.
